Stand-Your-Ground Hearing on Tuesday!

It’s been a huge week as we fight for Stand-Your-Ground law in Cheyenne, but we have a lot of work to do.

Thanks to your grassroots activism, Stand-Your-Ground law was referred to the Senate Agriculture Committee late Friday by a vote of 24-5!

In addition, the House version of this bill (House Bill 168) was referred to the House Judiciary Committee on Thursday, by a vote of 51-8!

WyGo’s Membership Coordinator Michelle Sabrosky and our Policy Advisor Aaron Dorr spent a lot of time in Cheyenne this week, coordinating our efforts, and told me that lawmakers are feeling the heat from WyGo members.

Of course, no one in Cheyenne should be opposed to this bill.

After all, Stand-Your-Ground law simply removes the requirement to retreat before defending yourself from a violent criminal.

The bill also provides important criminal and civil immunity language, to make sure that you can’t be falsely prosecuted or bankrupted in civil court!

Don’t forget, thirty-six states already have this bill on the books, and it’s absolutely embarrassing that Wyoming citizens don’t already have these protections in place.

But just because this bill is common sense, doesn’t mean that it’s going to pass into law without a fight.

We certainly have moderates in both chambers who are opposing us, there is an aggressive whisper campaign to stall it out — and the media is doing all they can to shut this down!

And that’s why I need you to help keep the heat on this bill in Cheyenne. The House Judiciary Committee will be considering Stand-Your-Ground law THIS TUESDAY at 12:00pm!

Representative Salazar will be offering an amendment to make HB 168 the mirror image of SF71, as HB 168 has some minor issues that need to be addressed.

Please send your PRE-WRITTEN EMAIL to the entire committee right away, urging them to support the bill and the Salazar amendment!

When you’re done, please forward this email to every single gun owner you know so they can get involved in this fight, too!

Remember, Governor Mead vetoed the gun bill that you and I put on his desk last year as a favor to the anti-gun lobbyists that work in the Capitol.

This year, in his final year in office, Governor Mead has even less to lose.

Making sure this bill advances with as many votes backing it as possible is the best way to get the Governor to realize that he needs to back this bill.

For this weekend, that fight consists of getting HB 168 past the House Judiciary Committee with the Salazar amendment — so please send your PRE-WRITTEN EMAIL right away!

And please consider an immediate donation to Wyoming Gun Owners.

We are using every tool in our arsenal to mobilize gun owners across the state from targeted social media, direct mail, and more — but we need your help to maintain this effort!

Please make a donation of $100, $50 or $25 TODAY!

For Freedom,

David Ball
President

P.S. Your calls and emails are making a huge difference in Cheyenne — but now is no time to back off!

Stand-Your-Ground law has been filed in the House and Senate and now the House Judiciary Committee will take up the bill NEXT TUEDAY!

There will be an amendment offered on the bill from Rep. Salazar, our bill sponsor, to bring HB 168 into conformity with SF 71.

That’s why it’s urgent that you send your PRE-WRITTEN EMAIL to the entire committee right away, urging them to support the bill and the Salazar amendment!

And when you’re done, I hope you’ll consider making a donation to Wyoming Gun Owners right away.

We are working around the clock to advance this bill by mobilizing gun owners, but we need your help to maintain this effort!

Any amount of money you can contribute to this fight would be greatly appreciated and put to use immediately!
