It’s been a very busy week in Cheyenne in the fight for gun rights and there is urgent action that you need to take, so please keep reading.

First, the bad news.

The Senate voted earlier this week to keep SF-75 in the Judiciary Committee — a notoriously hostile committee — by a vote of 16-14.

This bill would do away with deadly ‘Gun Free Zones’ in Wyoming once and for all, and establishes the fact that it is the legislature (not cities, universities, or the courts) who set firearms laws in Wyoming!

The following Senators voted against your gun rights by voting to keep this bill in what many insiders refer to as a ‘kill committee:’

Senators Anderson, Anselmi-Dalton, Baldwin, Case, Coe, Ellis, Gierau, Kost, Landen, Pappas, Perkins, Rothfuss, Schuler, Scott, Von Flattern, and Wasserburger.

And don’t believe their excuse about how ‘this was not a vote on a gun bill, it was just a procedural motion.’ That’s an utter lie, and they know it.

Earlier this week, I personally spoke with Chairwoman Nethercott about the bill and asked her what she intended to do with SF 75.

Senator Nethercott told me that she will hold a committee hearing on the bill next Wednesday, but beyond that, was non-committal.

When I asked her if she was working to introduce harmful amendments that were designed to weaken the bill — she would not answer.

When I asked her if she was going to ‘whip’ her caucus (use her leadership position to get her fellow Republicans to vote ‘Yes,’) to make sure that the bill would get out of her committee — she would not answer.

Bottom line: there is going to be a committee vote on SF-75 at 8:00am next Wednesday, and I need you to email the members of the committee immediately and insist that they advance this bill with no weakening amendments!

Whether you contact them via email, Facebook, phone or in person, your message is the same: Pass Senate File 75 as is, with no weakening amendments, to rid Wyoming of deadly ‘Gun Free Zones’ and fix our preemption problem!

Please contact them right away, as the committee meets in just a few days.

The good news is that we were also able to get a House companion of this bill filed this week as well.

House Bill 183 is the identical bill to Senate File 75, and already has an astounding 33 co-sponsors. This means that we’ll have a separate option to advance this bill, if we need it.

You may recall it was this same process, dueling bills in both chambers, that allowed us to get the heat on lawmakers when we passed Stand-Your-Ground law last year.

The University of Wyoming lobbyists, the Wyoming Assoc. of Municipalities, and many others are trying to stop this bill, or water it down any way they can.

Virtually every one of these lawmakers said that they were pro-gun when on the campaign trail; it’s time to make them prove it!
