Thirteen years ago, when Wyoming Gun Owners was first launched to deal with Wyoming’s oppressive concealed carry laws, there was such a thing as a ‘blue dog’ Democrat in the Wyoming legislature.
These were fiscally conservative Democrats who were in the middle of the road when it came to social issues like our great Second Amendment.
If you’ve been involved in our fight for gun rights since the beginning, you’ll remember that a group of these ‘blue dog’ Democrats (like Ken Esquibel and Stan Blake) stood up and voted in favor of our Constitutional Carry bill in 2011 — after Wyoming Gun Owners members forced their hand.
Today, everything is different in Cheyenne.
In just the last two years, radical leftists have declared war against the Second Amendment and have pushed a slate of aggressive gun control bills like:
>>> H.B. 59; which would empower liberal judges here in Wyoming to strip you of your gun rights based on the word of an anti-gun mental health staffer who hates gun owners!
>>> S.F. 80; which would put you in prison for the ‘crime’ of buying a handgun without first waiting for three days, even if someone is stalking you or a loved one!
And as WYGO members remember, gun-grabbers in the legislature has been trying to weaken Wyoming’s Stand-Your-Ground law, too!
It’s safe to say that every single Democrat in Cheyenne hates the Second Amendment, they hate gun owners like you and me who fight to protect it, and they are doing everything they can to make you into a criminal for owning the firearms that we use every day for defense against criminals and tyrants!
Of course, each of the bills listed above have been supported by hyper moderate ‘Republicans’ like Senator Michael Von Flatern, Senator Tara Nethercott, and Representative Dan Furphy.
Now, everyone knows that WYGO members threw Von Flatern and many of his ilk out of office during last year’s primaries. But that was just the tip of the iceberg, as there a plenty of other moderates in Cheyenne willing to attack our gun rights.
And this trend isn’t reversing any time soon. In fact, I think it’s only going to heat up as liberal Democrats AND moderate Republicans work to turn our beloved Wyoming into the next Colorado.
That’s why I am emailing you today.
The mission of Wyoming Gun Owners has always been to stop gun control, advance pro-gun legislation, and to hold the politicians who stand in the way of those goals accountable.
Each of these efforts are vitally important to the future of our freedoms here in Wyoming — but they come at a cost.
And when you combine our work to push for the Second Amendment Preservation Act, with our fight to make sure that Barrasso, Lummis and Cheney hold the line against Biden, and our incredible election programs that continue to reshape Wyoming politics, the costs add up FAST!
And while I’m able to make budget allotments at the beginning of the year after we complete our annual renewal program, after the first few months of the year, I often am forced to make deep cuts in our programs because we just can’t afford them.
With the growing threats that we are facing, that is the last thing that I want to do.
