Moments ago, Wyoming Gun Owners’ Second Amendment Preservation Act (SF-101) passed the Wyoming Senate on a vote of 26-5.
This is a major victory for gun owners.
But make no mistake — this was a gun fight from the very beginning. Anti-gun moderates and their allies did everything they could to stall, weaken, and kill this bill.
First, Republican Senator Cale Case pulled SF-101 off the consent list, costing us valuable time and forcing a full floor fight.
Then Senator Larry Hicks attempted to “lay the bill over,” a procedural tactic used to delay legislation and potentially kill it outright.
Thankfully, Senator Bo Biteman objected, and Hicks’ attempt to stall SAPA failed.
Then came the floor debate.
Moderate Republicans lined up one after another to attack SAPA, repeating talking points pushed by anti-gun law enforcement lobbyists who are desperate to protect their ability to enforce federal gun control.
When the dust settled, five Republicans voted against gun owners and sided with the anti-gun lobby:
>>> Brian Boner
>>> Evie Brennan
>>> Larry Hicks
>>> John Kolb
>>> Charlie Scott
Let me be clear: without your support and pressure from Wyoming gun owners, this bill might not have survived. And now SAPA moves to the Wyoming House.
And this fight is already underway. The House version of SAPA (HB-130) is already moving and could be voted on when the legislature returns from its lunch break.
We cannot afford to let up now.
Law enforcement lobbyists are working overtime, spreading false claims and outright lies in an attempt to scare lawmakers into voting against SAPA.
We must overwhelm them with pressure from gun owners.
