Sign Your Petition to Gordon Before He Veto’s SAPA!

WYGO has had an incredible session in Cheyenne!

First, as I told you last time, we successfully destroyed SF-12, which would have created a new lifetime protective order, with a lifetime gun ban. We crushed that bill in committee.

Second, as you likely heard on the news, our long fight to finally rid Wyoming of deadly ‘Gun Free Zones’ is over!

Governor Gordon vetoed this bill last year. But knowing that the legislature was chomping at the bit to override his veto this year, he let it become law (without his signature) and issued a scathing letter to the legislature in the process.

WYGO first ran this bill in 2017, only to have then-Governor Mead veto it. Then it died in committee for a few years.

And as I said, Governor Gordon vetoed it last year.

But WYGO members never gave up. We fought in the primaries and in Cheyenne. Now this battle is over!

(Myself and Rep. Jeremy Haroldson — Haroldson carried ‘Gun Free Zone’ repeal across the finish line this year!)

Third, and perhaps most important of all, we passed the Second Amendment Preservation Act — and it is currently on Governor Gordon’s desk!

It’s vital that you sign the petition that we have prepared for you, urging Governor Mark Gordon to sign SF-196 into law!

The Governor has three options with this bill.

He can sign the bill which would finish this fight once and for all. If Gordon does that, SAPA would take effect July 1st of this year.

He can veto it, which would kill the bill. If that happens, we would have to finish this during next year’s budget session.

Or the Governor can take no action on it. If he takes no action for fifteen days SAPA will become law by his inaction –like ‘Gun Free Zone’ repeal did.

Normally, when a bill passes the legislature by massive margins, the Governor is more inclined to sign it into law.

SAPA certainly fits that category.

After months of hard work, SAPA passed the Wyoming Senate by a vote of 29-1 (2 members were absent.) In the House, the final floor vote was 53-7 (2 members were absent.)

What’s more, we were able to stave off all floor amendments too, meaning we passed a clean version of SAPA!

(Rep. Bob Wharff (L) and me (R), presenting SAPA in the House Appropriations Committee.)

But to be very honest, I don’t know what Governor Gordon will do in this case. He’s reportedly very angry that the legislature overrode five of his vetoes before they adjourned.

It’s critical to note that the Governor’s Chief of Staff is Drew Perkins.

Perkins is a former State Senator. He was a hyper RINO, and he was removed by gun owners during the 2022 primary.

It’s a safe bet that Perkins will be urging the Governor to veto this bill, even though it had almost unanimous support in the House and Senate.

That’s why the Governor needs to hear from as many gun owners as possible over the next two weeks!

Senate File 196 would finally fix the issues with Wyoming’s Second Amendment Preservation Act (SAPA) once and for all! Specifically, this legislation would:

  • Clearly prohibit state and local police officers from assisting the Federal Government in the enforcement of any federal gun control laws or Executive Orders. This will ensure that the next time we have a Democrat President, they can’t use our own cops against us.
  • Establish civil penalties in SAPA law, allowing departments that willfully violate SAPA law and enforce federal gun control laws to be sued in civil court for damages. This is a badly needed upgrade. While current law has criminal penalties, county prosecutors won’t use them.
  • Prevent department heads who oppose SAPA from circumventing it by letting their officers enforce federal gun control laws via a joint federal task force.Current law only stops Wyoming cops from enforcing federal gun control laws if they are paid using Wyoming dollars. This bill ends this carve out.

If this bill becomes law, Wyoming will have the best protections of any state in America against the federal government trying to use our cops to enforce gun control!

And now is the best time to pass SAPA.

With President Trump in the White House, we won’t have to worry about this law being challenged as states that passed SAPA when Biden was in the White House did.

But I need help from WYGO members, and I need it now.

First, I need you to immediately the petition that we have prepared for you to Governor Gordon.

Second, I hope you’ll consider an immediate donation to WYGO. We need your help to implement the program you see below.

Our program consists of:

  • Digital ads; WYGO’s digital ads are already running. They are reaching thousands of gun owners a day. But we need to increase that number, fast.
  • Our texting program; WYGO text alerts allow us to activate large numbers of gun owners by putting this message directly onto their phones.
  • Mass email alerts; WYGO’s email program doesn’t work just because it’s big. It works because it contains a one-click, prewritten email to the Governor, urging him to sign SF-196!

But each part of this program costs money. And we simply don’t have the resources we need to run this program at the size it needs to be run without your help.

After you’ve signed your petition, please consider an immediate donation of $25, $50, $75 or even $100 to help us finish this fight!

WYGO members have made this state one of the best in America for gun owners.

(Senator Tim Salazaar was the lead sponsor on SF-196 for WYGO!)

We passed Constitutional Carry, Stand-Your-Ground law, a ban on ‘Red Flags,’ and we’ve eliminated ‘Gun Free Zones.’

But the next Democrat in the White House could ignore this, and make our cops enforce federal gun control here in Wyoming without SAPA.

We must finish this fight!

Stand with us!

Sign your petition right away and please make a special donation of $150, $75, $50, $25, or at least $10 to help us flood Governor Gordon with calls urging him to sign SF-196!
